One of a Kind Care for a One of a Kind Girl
As most girls her age are thinking about boys and a future, Rose at 14 years old is just trying to live life to the fullest between numerous doctor's appointments and trips to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children Hospital.
Rose has Mitochondrial Disease and this disorder affects many of her body systems and many of her organs. She sees many specialist and i could not imagine having her be cared for anywhere but the University of Iowa Stead Family Children Hospital. The doctors that care for her care for her mind as much as her body. They have never walked out of the exam room or her hospital room with out me understanding everything. Though there is no cure for Mitochondrial Disease and there is a very good chance that it will shorten her life, we know that the hospital will do everything they can to give her the best quality of life for the time she is here.
Part of giving her a good quality of life and letting her feel special and letting her forget the unknown future, is the time she spends as a miracle kid for UNI Dance Marathon. The college kids don't have to take time to make my daughter feel special but seeing the smile on my little girl's face during the time she gets to spend with them is priceless.
Rose will most likely never get to go to college but we know that the doctors at University of Iowa Stead Family Children Hospital and UNI Dance Marathon both are working to let her enjoy the time she does have and feel as good as possible while she is doing it.
Thank you UNI Dance Marathon and the Children Hospital for making my girl matter...FTK
