Supporting the Hospital: 3 Rooms So Far

The University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital opened its new 14 floor hospital on February 25th, 2017 becoming Iowa's only comprehensive children's hospital. The hospital has served nearly every U.S. state and makes miracles happen daily. Three of the rooms in the hospital were committed to fundraising for the hospital helped to fund the three rooms in the hospital that are now named after UNI Dance Marathon.

The first room is a Patient Room in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The UNI Dance Marathon Patient Room serves the patients of the PICU which sees the sickest of the sick kiddos. On the 3rd floor of the hospital, the most critical patients receive around the clock care from the hospital nurses, doctors, and staff.

The second room is an Operating Room at the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital. On the 5th floor the hospital, the UNI Dance Marathon Operating Room is specially designed and equipped to serve all children: from the tiniest newborns to seventeen year old basketball stars. Its design meets the unique needs of pediatric patients and the doctors can help kiddos everyday with a level of expertise that can't be found anywhere else.

The third room is a Parent Respite Room on the 10th floor. The UNI Dance Marathon Parent Respite Room serves the families of sick kiddos providing them space to relax within the hospital. Parents can feel at home in this space regardless how far they are from home and be close with their kiddos. It is incredibly important for parents to take an occasional moment away for quiet time, reflection, prayer or mediation. This room is also used by parents as a space to meet with relatives and with staff in order to have some serious, scary conversations out of earshot from the little ears of their sick kiddos.

Each room has a unique purpose, but all help to fulfill the hospitals mission to change kids' lives. We are so lucky to made these commitments to the hospital and help the sickest kiddos in the state and across the country, but we aren't stopping here. UNI Dance Marathon will continue to fundraise for the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital and for the sick kiddos who come to that hospital for treatment from one of the premiere children's hospital in the country.
