UNI Dance Marathon has been helping children with life threatening illnesses and injuries since 2012, giving financial and emotional support to hundreds of families across Iowa. Since the beginning, we have raised a total of $982,000 for University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital! Each year UNI Dance Marathon continues to grow and make a larger impact on our families across Iowa.
In 2013, we held our 2nd Big Event, where we announced a fundraising total of $101,379.02!
Our event on March 5, 2016 was our largest to date, with over 1,200 dancers fundraising $370,248.05 for our 5th Big Event!
In our 4th year as a program, we raised $278,135.04 on March 7, 2015!
In 2015, we committed $500,000 over two years to fund two rooms in the new hospital, a parent respite lounge on the 10th floor of the building and one of eight new operating rooms.
In 2014, we raised $176,498.03 at our 3rd Big Event! This exceeded our goal of raising $125,000 and put us in the top 20 fundraising Dance Marathon programs in the country!
In January 2013, we committeed $100,000 over two years to to the new University of Iowa Children's Hospital to fund one of the NICU rooms in the new hospital.
On February 28, 2012, we hosted our first Big Event. 500 dancers attended the 12 hour event and $56,473.01 was raised, far exceeding our goal of $12,000!
UNI DM was founded in January 2011 by Emily Hanson, Brenna (Bush) Huggins, and Dakota Reed. Along with advisor, Oksana Grybovych, planning began to launch DM on campus in Fall 2011.
